SUMMARY:Women Healthcare Public Dialogue
DESCRIPTION:AROEHAN organised an Aarogya Jana Samvaad at Mokhada on May 23\, 2022.  The public dialogue was focused solely on healthcare system for women in the rural areas. We mobilised the community and helped them let out their pains and peril in this public dialogue. Women brought attention to several concerning issues. They spoke about the negligence by employees in Primary Healthcare Centers (PHC) and the rude behaviour of doctors toward them. The lack of resources in PHCs and the Rural Hospital has forced patients\, including pregnant women\, to travel all the way to Nashik Hospital. They also pointed out they have not received their money under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana. \nThe highlighted issues from the session are: \n\nPeople were concerned about the sonography checkup that is scheduled once a week for insufficient hours. Also\, the travel distance for pregnant women is more and the time assigned for the check-up is less which increases the waiting time and all patients get have to get access to these services in these limited hours only.\nSonography for other patients is not available at the RH Mokhada. Patients have to travel to far places and private hospitals like Wada\, Ghoti\, and Nashik. This causes a financial and mental burden to the people.\nNo regular vaccination for pregnant mothers and children. (Pathardi\, Botewadi\, Shirasgaon)\n46 vacancies of health workers and officers.\nLack of basic infrastructure in public health services.\nSuryamal PHU (Public health unit) does not have full-time doctors.\nSubstations are closed due to insufficient staff.\nPeople have to face many difficulties as there is no substation in Kurlod even after 6/7 years of follow-up.\n\nRead More: https://aroehan.org/aroehan-ngo-organises-women-healthcare-public-dialogue/

SUMMARY:Mokhada Vikas Jansamvad
DESCRIPTION:On April 19\, 2022\, AROEHAN facilitated the dialogue between 150 local people with government agencies\, people’s representatives\, local Z.P. Members\, and corporators of Mokhada Nagar Panchayat. The organizations such as NGOs working for the people and their holistic development of the Mokhada taluka were also present.\nAROEHAN laid out the current state of the development of Mokhada taluka followed by opinions and experiences shared by known organizations such as Action Against Hunger and Vayam.  The local people used this platform to share issues that are as small as ANM\, doctors’ and nurses’ absenteeism in the PHCs and sub-centers\, and as big as the unavailability of different types of equipment and ambulance in the Rural hospital.  Many of the Pada Samiti members shared how they have strengthened their village. The issues mentioned include water for drinking and agriculture\, ineffective implementation of NREGA\, sonography services at Mokhada Rural Hospital should be available to all patients at least 3 days a week full time\, basic facilities should be available at public health services\, basic facilities in schools and the adequate number of trained teachers for quality education. There is a need to facilitate easy distribution of ration\, provision of small bridges\, roads\, and proper implementation of the Forest Rights Act and PESA Act. Also\, the most outspoken issue in the spotlight is the design and implementation of policies taking into account migration due to the non-availability of employment at the local level and inadequate piped water schemes that should be completed expeditiously.\nThe taluka has perennial water sources like Madhya Vaitarna Dam\, Wagh Project\, Khoch Dam as well as Wagh River\, Pinjal River\, Amlechi River\, Deobandh River. Due to lack of water management and planning\, people face severe water scarcity every year. The gap between people and government is widening day by day due to a lack of communication and poor and very slow response from the governing machinery. The objective and expectation from this Jansamvaad is to accelerate the process of addressing the local issues and providing quick responses from the government offices.

SUMMARY:Women's Day celebration with Tribal Women in Dholara
DESCRIPTION:saEvery year on 8th March\, the world celebrates International Women’s Day to honour the women in their lives. We at AROEHAN\, also love to take the opportunity to celebrate it with the people we care about i.e. our community in different hamlets in rural Palghar. The board members of AROEHAN felicitated the resilient women of Dholara. Some of them included mothers\, homemakers\, teachers\, and deputy sarpanch. \nThe village’s children lined up a slew of performances for the locals and AROEHAN activists present. Some of the girls were dolled up in the Maharashtrian traditional wear Navari Sari to perform a folk dance. The school-going children put up a puppet show to explain the importance of cleanliness in society. Most of the performances carried a social message as well as a bulk of entertainment. The young girls performed a sketch performance to explain the importance of Bachat Gat with a punch of humour that left the audience in splits. One of the performances also called out the patriarchy and outdated custom of marrying off girls right after she comes out of school which is still practiced largely in rural India. \nAROEHAN’s CEO\, Mr. Amit Narkar delivered a moving speech about women being such an integral part of society and yet they are put on a pedestal. While the women in villages carry the backbone of the country i.e. agriculture\, men prefer going off to the city while the women solely take care of the farming and family. He also pointed out that even though the panel sitting in front of them has more men than women\, one day there will be an equal ratio. He elaborated on the history of Women’s Day and how it made its way around the world. He also told the villagers that women don’t want to be worshiped as goddesses or be higher than men\, all they ask for is to be treated equally and that is why a day like women’s day is important. \nThe deputy sarpanch called out the basic injustices women face on daily basis. In her speech\, she did not hold back and called out women keeping themselves after their families and that is not okay. She explained to them that the key to a happy household is a happy and healthy wife and they must acknowledge their worth first only then people around will do so. The way women are raised\, they don’t realize how much patriarchy is internalized within them and they don’t learn to question otherwise. It’s a day like International Women’s Day and a celebration like this that helps us to pave the way to generate awareness\, to make them feel special as they are\, to value them\, and hope they would value themselves and as would people around them. As Swami Vivekanand once said “A nation cannot thrive without women. A bird cannot fly with one wing.” And he was right\, thusly so.

SUMMARY:A revolutionary protest against no sonography check-ups at Rural Hospital Mokhada
DESCRIPTION:Our empowered pregnant women raised their voice for their rights to a healthy pregnancy and medical facilities in front of the hospital government officials and staff. On 28th October 2021\, all the women along with the Aroehan health team gathered to discuss the issue and inform the hospital authorities that if they were not taken seriously then on the 11th of November they will call out for a strike against the government hospital and remain seated indefinitely in front of the hospital. The issue persists since July 2021 the pregnant women were deprived of regular sonography check up’s. The inconvenience was caused due to the unavailability of the sonologist at the sonography centre. The sonologist stopped coming to the centre because he was not paid on time. This situation made pregnant women suffer due to irregular or no check-ups\, travel from far and remote places paying huge fare amounts\, and long waiting hours. \nOn 11th November 2021\, Pregnant women conquered the fight against “No Sonography check-ups”. The women who were facing adversity since July 2021 ended on 11th November 2021. They registered a big success by resuming the sonography services and health check-ups at Rural Hospital\, Mokhada. On that day 52 pregnant women were examined and sonography checkups were completed. The sonologist has been appointed and the facility of sonography check-up is resumed after a long pause.

SUMMARY:Farmer's visit to fields Lasalgaon and Malegaon
DESCRIPTION:An exposure visit for the farmers on bamboo farming and drumstick farming. The visit was scheduled for 16th September 2021. Aroehan team along with 24 farmers visited the bamboo farms of Mr. Nandkumar Patil. Farmers were shared information on the scope of bamboo\, bamboo cultivation\, appropriate soil type for bamboo\, optimum climate for bamboo cultivation\, types of irrigation for bamboo trees\, protection from pests and diseases\, suitable nutrition sources\, and application of intercropping for better yield. Farming methodologies are important but suitable marketing strategies make the profits more promising. In the second half of the trip\, we planned to visit Mr. Deepak Savant’s drumstick farm situated in Malegaon. Drumstick (Moringa oleifera) is a perennial dicotyledonous tree\, which fixes nitrogen in the soil. As its leaves fall to the ground\, the texture of the soil improves. During the visit\, the farmers received guidance on the following points. Types of Soil and climate\, planting methodology which includes pit size (2 x 2 x 2 feet)\, season\, appropriate spacing (row size 2.5 m x 2.5 m and for medium soil 3.0 m x 3.0 m)\, water management\, and nutrition. The selection of varieties is an important factor for better yield. The varieties such as Odishi\, PKM-1 are PKM-2 few varieties that produce good quality drumsticks. The fruit is ready to harvest in about 6-7 months after plantation.

SUMMARY:Some events from 2014 to 2017
DESCRIPTION:Tree Plantation at Dahanu \nThe main features of a Wadi model are economic upliftment of the farmers through sustainable agriculture\, social empowerment\, improvement in the quality of life including health\, and women empowerment in tribal-dominated areas. The broad interventions are in the areas of land planning\, soil\, and water harvesting measures\, and improved farming-based agroforestry practices. Therefore\, Wadi not only strengthens the agrarian livelihoods of the tribal households but also increases food and nutritional security. We have helped 213 farmers in Dahanu with fruit trees like cashews\, mangoes\, guava\, etc. to be planted with the crops as part of afforestation linked with income generation. \n\n\n\n\n\nTree Plantation Campaign: \nOn the 1st of July AROEHAN with Tata Motors successfully planted 10\,000 trees on Forest Land in Jawhar in collaboration with the Forest Department. These trees have been planted over 40 acres of land and will be maintained by the Joint Forest Management Committees. \nAROEHAN’s Tree Plantation Campaign has been designed in a way so as to provide livelihood opportunities for the people of Mokhada and Jawhar. Carefully selected tree species that are suitable to the local terrain have been given to local farmers. AROEHAN sponsors the sapling and manure cost while the farmer ensures maintenance of the sapling thereby guaranteeing the survival of the tree. \nThis year AROEHAN will be planting over 1.25 Lakh trees in Mokhada spreading over 800 hectares of land. The trees are a combination of 60% fruit-bearing and 40% other varieties and will be planted in collaboration with local farmers\, they include Ber\, Moha\, Mango\, Cashew\, Bael\, Neem\, Tamarind\, Karanj\, Jambhul\, Pangara\, Peepal\, Guava\, and Seetaphal. \n\n\n\n\n\nNotebook Distribution Drive: \nAROEHAN in collaboration with Youth for People distributed over 2 lakh notebooks to children in Mokhada and Jawhar. Youth for people has been raising funds for notebooks for children in Mokhada for the past 3 years. This year\, the children were also entertained by Kabir Cafe – a Mumbai-based music band that sings songs based on Sant Kabir’s poetry. \n\n\n\n\n\nMedical Eye Camp: \nAroehan in association with National Association for Blind organised a free medical eye camp in Mokhada on 26th December 2014. The people were provided free eye testing followed by free eye operations for identified patients on the 27th December 2014 at Jawhar hospital.
